How we work
Six things you canhold him to.
Not a warranty document and not a list of slogans — just the way A & P Moyes actually works, written down so you can hold the business to it. Six things, all of them drawn from what the firm says of itself and what twenty years of local work looks like in practice.
The same person, start to finish
The person who looks at the job prices it, does it and answers the phone about it afterwards. A & P Moyes describes itself as a family-run business, and that is the practical meaning of it: nothing gets lost between the estimator, the office and whoever turns up on the day.
Free quotations, no obligation
Quotations cost nothing and commit you to nothing. Ring and describe the job, or send a photograph, and you will get a straight answer about what is involved before money is mentioned. If it is smaller than you feared, you will be told that.
Priced after it has been looked at
Anything more than a quick fix gets seen on site before it is quoted, because the age of a property, the state of the board and how easy it is to get a cable from A to B change the number more than the job description does. The figure quoted is the figure to pay.
Certificated where it should be
Notifiable work is certificated on completion, and inspection and testing comes with a written report rather than a verbal reassurance. That is the paperwork your solicitor, your letting agent or your insurer will eventually ask for, and it is easier to have it than to go looking for it later.
Out of hours if the day will not work
Out-of-hours appointments are available on request. Shops that cannot shut, offices that cannot lose a day, and houses where the only time the utility room can be emptied is a Saturday morning — say so when you ring and it can usually be arranged.
The honest answer, including the cheap one
Sometimes the right advice is a new consumer unit; sometimes it is one RCBO and a conversation about the freezer. Twenty years in the same handful of postcodes only works if people ring back, and people only ring back if they were told the truth the first time.
Put it to the test
Ring with the smallest job on your list and see how it goes. That is genuinely the best way to find out whether any of the above is true — and it is how most of the twenty years' worth of repeat customers started too.
